


Requirements for Speech-Language Pathologists in New York State
MTA employs only qualified, certified personnel. Certification Links to Licensing and Certifying Agencies in the New York Education Department: Office of the Professions and the Office of Teacher Certification. Please follow these links for instructions on obtaining and verifying certification for Speech Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and those about to begin their ASHA Clinical Fellowship Year
• Professional licensure with the Office of the Professions, New York Sate Department of Education: For those clinicians who have a master's degree in speech-language pathology /communication disorders or are about to begin their CFY
• Clinicians who are about to begin their CFY, Review ASHA policies and regulations for the CFY
• ALL speech clinicians who wish to work for MTA with preschool or school age populations: New York State Education Department. Office of Teaching Initiatives

• Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped(TSHH):
Certification before Feb 2, 2004
• Teacher of Speech and Language Disabilities (TSLD):
Certification for anyone after Feb 2, 2004 (replaces the TSHH)
• Bilingual Extension
NOTE: To obtain a Bilingual Extension, you must ALREADY possess OR qualify for a certificate in the area of speech and language from the Office of Teacher Certification.
You cannot obtain the Bilingual Extension unless you already have or qualify for the base certification in speech and language.
